The Heinz Endowments will share in $35 million that the Ford Foundation is distributing to 10 regional foundations nationwide to help sustain Black, Latino, Asian and other minority arts and cultural groups that have seen their finances decimated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The endowments, based Downtown and the second-largest philanthropy in Pittsburgh, will receive $5 million from the Ford Foundation and match that with $5 million to make grants to diverse arts organizations.

The endowments’ investment in the Pittsburgh region initially will target Black-led arts and culture entities, said Grant Oliphant, the philanthropy’s president.
