David Ramsey, a 34-year-old Black visual arts entrepreneur, had a revelation in 2017 while visiting an exhibition of work by Black artists at City of Ink, a tattoo parlor and gallery in Atlanta.
He noticed that the works on view ranged in price from the low three figures for high-quality prints to $5,000 and $6,000 for one-of-a-kind paintings.
That got Ramsey thinking about how selling multiples by Black artists instead of more expensive original paintings could make fine art accessible to buyers of modest means.
