Angela Gaskins realized the challenges of getting children and teens interested in literature when she worked as a teacher and media specialist with Norfolk Public Schools.
Almost two decades after she started teaching, she is still on a mission to broaden access to the written word.
Gaskins, the library manager at South Norfolk Memorial Library in Chesapeake, is inviting the public to the Black Ink festival at the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Outreach and Innovation Library, a year after the event went virtual because of COVID-19.
The third Black Ink: LitFest will kick off at 10:45 a.m. Sept. 25 at the library at 2726 Border Road. The free event features a lineup of artists including musician Michael Giamille and actress Leila Stephanie. Much of the festival will take place outdoors.
