Jaren Kirkland knew he wanted to be his own boss, but didn’t know it would be in the logistics business until he saw an opportunity with Amazon. Now he’s building a successful business delivering thousands of packages a day.
During a recent snowstorm in central Maryland, Jaren Kirkland had 30 Amazon drivers out on routes across a territory that covers parts of four states. Seven drivers hadn’t shown up for work that morning for one reason or another, and Kirkland’s team was scrambling to make sure they had the manpower and resources to complete their deliveries in the snow.
In 2020, when the Brownstown, Michigan native became at 21 years old the youngest owner in Amazon‘s Delivery Service Partner Program, he was involved with everything from doing deliveries to taking vans to the mechanic to hiring. Now, almost four years later, he has annual revenues of $3 million and oversees a fleet of 48 Amazon-branded blue vans that deliver 11,000 packages per day during the peak season, from Black Friday to Christmas Eve.
