Imagine this: Every summer a handful of Black and Brown girls are given the chance to somersault, cartwheel and scissor leap across an HBCU campus – prepared for a week of gymnastics camp and ready to soak up the historically Black college campus experience.
You don’t have to imagine it. It’s already a reality — this is how Brown Girls Do Gymnastics (BGDG) has welcomed students to camp across HBCU campuses for the last three years. BGDG is an organization working to increase diversity and inclusion in gymnastics and circus arts.
“We want the schools to see that there are plenty of upper-level, recruitable Black and Brown gymnasts who want to go to HBCUs,” Coach Derrin Moore told Reckon.
