The Center of Black Excellence and Culture completed their building’s structural framework on Wednesday.
The event kicked off with attendees signing a beam in white, red, green and yellow markers. The center’s colors are the same as February’s annually observed Black History Month colors. After the beam-signing, the ceremony moved outside. Despite the cold, a number of people came to witness as the last structural piece was raised into place.
Founder and CEO of The Center, Alexander Gee Jr., said signing the beam and watching it be hoisted helped him realize they are not just reflecting back on history, but becoming history makers.
