Leaders in Charlotte’s Jewish and African American communities are working together to create a “transformative” new space in an uptown park memorializing an iconic civil rights hero and victims of the Holocaust.

“Circle of Humanity: Monuments for Unity & Remembrance” is a nearly $1 million dollar plan for Marshall Park that reimagines existing memorials to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and those who died in the Holocaust. It’s the latest in a series of powerful collaborations between Mecklenburg County’s Jewish and Black communities, Rabbi Judy Schindler, one of the leaders of the initiative, told The Charlotte Observer.
