In New Orleans’s historic Seventh Ward, a series of repurposed shipping containers will soon host what its founders hope will be a new model of arts education and community building.
Artists Joseph Cuillier and Shani Peters founded the Black School a decade ago, slowly setting up the groundwork for a physical space. Now, after more than five years of fundraising and community outreach, they will open the Black Schoolhouse next month as the physical manifestation of the Black School.
