Ron Carter & Foursight delivered a standing room-only performance on Monday, September 7, 2026, closing out the final day of the 47th annual Detroit Jazz Festival.
Cater, the world-famous 89-year-old Ferndale native and Cass Tech graduate, alumnus took the Waterfront Stage in front of a packed crowd at Detroit’s Hart Plaza.
The Guinness World Record’s most-recorded jazz bassist led his Foursight Quartet, featuring Renee Rosnes on piano, Jimmy Greene on saxophone, and Payton Crossley on drums. Carter steered the quartet through a display of live improvisation and fresh musical ideas.
At the end of the performance, Detroit Jazz Festival organizers and the city honored Carter with the prestigious Spirit of Detroit Award — an expression of gratitude for his extraordinary artistry, influencing generations of musicians globally.
