Black History Month may be behind us, but Detroit is keeping the celebration of influential African-American historical figures going.

Metro Detroit parents and children are invited to participate in an upcoming art exhibition showcasing children depicting icons of Black history.

Last year, Wayne State University Press published “That They Lived: African Americans Who Changed the World,” a book by Rochelle Riley and Cristi Smith-Jones with more than 100 pages featuring black-and-white photos of Lola Jones (Smith-Jones’ daughter, then 5) and Caleb Johnson (Riley’s grandson, then 8) playing dress-up as important contributors to Black history, along with brief biographies easily digestible for young minds.
