The Grammy-winning soprano Karen Slack will give the third annual Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Recital at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater.
“African Queens,” presented and co-commissioned by Washington Performing Arts, is about as ambitious as a recital could get: It looks back on Black ancestry with a thematic focus on great African women of the past, it looks forward through a program of music by contemporary Black composers and it situates Slack as one of opera’s strongest voices at present — both as a singer and a shaper of its culture.
