Porter Braswell made Jopwell a go-to for companies trying to hire minority candidates. Now, with 2045, he’s aiming to break open the C-suite for professionals of color.

At the 2045 Studio in the Flatiron district of New York, mostly young Black professionals mingle over cocktails and fancy hors d’oeuvres topped with caviar and salmon. It’s a mid-September evening and still warm enough for a gathering on the rooftop. At a time when there is a contentious debate around the country about affirmative action programs in higher education and corporate America, there is a sense of pride and urgency here for diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

In the middle of it all is Porter Braswell, a 35-year-old serial entrepreneur who has been cultivating this audience since 2014, when he co-founded Jopwell, a hiring platform that helps companies connect with diverse candidates. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey native and Yale graduate is here to introduce his next venture, 2045, a members-only network for accomplished leaders of color who are nominated by their employer.
