Tammy Black has a mission to get Detroiters trained in solar power installation.

She bought a house last September from the Detroit Land Bank Authority and set out to renovate it into a solar power training house through her nonprofit. And many businesses stepped in to help her mission by donating materials and labor.

Although Black is doing something she feels will be good for the community, she says she has faced some hurdles along the way.

The renovation, called the Eastlawn Solar Training House Project, is taking place at a house located on Eastlawn Street in Detroit. Black is the founder and CEO of the Community Treehouse Center Detroit, which helps neighborhoods get access to solar power energy. She also owns Communities Power, a business that installs solar panels in low-income communities.
