On Feb. 28, around 3,000 students will attend the “Classically Black: Great Music of African-American Composers” at the Broome County Forum Theatre.

The art museum and Philharmonic Orchestra are partnering to provide lesson plans based on art and music to teachers of students who attend the event. Grant funding from the Binghamton Rotary Club, Avangrid, and other groups makes the performance possible.

“We want the young people in Binghamton and the surrounding area to know that the symphony orchestra is for them and for those students of color they can see themselves in the orchestra, not just in the performers on stage but the composers who are writing the music,” said the executive director of the Binghamton Philharmonic Paul Cienniwa.
